Self Portrait

Self Portrait
18" x 24"
Charcoal/pastel
I wanted this to be my senior photo, but it has to go in an art section instead because it's not an actual photo. I drew inspiration from Lord of the Rings for the head-dress and elf ear and the Dragon from my imagination.

Chloe

Chloe
18" x 24"
Charcoal, pencil, and pastel
I had a really fun time adding color. This young lady has striking red hair and startlingly blue eyes which I enjoyed playing with in the picture. I've been told this picture looks a little older than the girl I drew, however her mom was pleased. I think what I will do now is begin to offer color along with a basic portrait and a steampunk portrait.

Baby Girl

 Baby Girl
18" x 24"
Charcoal/Pencil
I found this commission most enjoyable. This is a picture of the girl with red hair as a baby! This is only the second baby face I have done before.

Siblings

Siblings
18" x 24"
Charcoal/pencil
I am getting faster and better at capturing people and their personalities. This was done in a day or two. I'm quite happy with it, especially with the hair and the man's shirt.

Kay and her Grandma

Kay and her Grandma
18" x 24"
Charcoal/pencil
I really enjoyed getting to draw the hairstyles from earlier times.

Young Lady

Young Lady
18" x 24"
Charcoal and pencil
This is a picture of one of my commissions, the same commission as the one of the Young Man. I think I love the hair! This was a very hard picture to do because her head was tilted and I had to come up with a way to keep it the same style as my other drawings. The little bluish white color in the hair was from using a white charcoal pencil.

Portrait of a young man

Charcoal
18" x 24"
These pictures were for Mother's day for a family that visited the studio one day. They had just come from their own painting adventure and were in a mood for art.

The Little Match Girl

The Little Match Girl
13" x 19"
Watercolor, Charcoal and Coffee
This was one of my first experiments with painting with watercolor in the face and features before the tea and coffee. The layers of black were done with watered down charcoal and I smudged some on the face. My thoughts when creating this piece was of sorrow and happiness. The Little Match Girl written by Hans Christian Anderson is a sad piece because a little girl freezes to death trying to sell her matches rather than go home to be beaten by her dad. Before she dies, every time she lit a match she would see beautiful images of her dead grandma and Thanksgiving.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast
Tea and Coffee
I really like this picture. One of my favorites of the Concentration pieces I've done because of the drips in the background and getting to do the faces. The Beast is steampunked with clock pieces.

Liana

Liana
18" x 24"
Charcoal
I just finished this picture two days ago. It is currently hanging up in the gallery my family and I have for the next three months. The gallery is in downtown Loveland across from the Rialto. This is also a steampunk drawing- what makes it steampunk are the goggles.

Voices in My Head

Voices in My Head
14" x 17"
Ink
I did this picture while I was in Painting II of one of my friends. I drew his face using only words that he used to describe himself.

Halloween

Halloween
16" x 20"
Oil
This was my first oil painting! It was very hard to paint and I wanted to do dramatic lighting, but I am very proud of this piece. I worked on it during Halloween and finished it after Halloween, so I wanted it to be creepy.

The Seven Ravens

 The Seven Ravens
18" x 24"
Acrylic, paper m`ache, and cardboard
This is from the Seven Ravens story written by the Brothers Grimm about seven brothers cursed as ravens set free by their younger sister who was even willing to cut off her finger for them. The story is kind of creepy so I made my piece creepy. The closer raven is paper m`ache and the fence posts are cardboard. I had a lot of fun painting this.

Red Riding Hood

Red Riding Hood
11" x 7 3/4"
Ink Print with water color
This picture is one of my breadth pieces in AP Art. I had to do many prints before I got one I was happy with. The idea was that after Red Riding Hood had many encounters with the wolf, she learned to fight back and protect herself.

Jaden

18" x 24"
Jaden
Charcoal/pencil on cream paper
This picture was done as an example of a steampunk portrait. I had my friend Jaden dress up in a pirate outfit and I just added the sword and hat.

Belle

18" X 24"
Watercolor
This piece was done on homemade paper I bought at a garage sale. The fairy tale story for this was Beauty and the Beast. After this experiment, I don't think I will use homemade paper for watercolor again since it bleeds through the page like the forehead demonstrates and it brings up some of the paper.

Summer Treat

Summer Treat
18" X 24"
Charcoal/Pencil

Another commission done from a photo. Took approx. 1 hour. Surprisingly the ice cream was easy, however the eyes which are my specialty were hard. The picture I worked from was not as high a quality as I'd like, but the client was happy with the result.

First United Presbyterian Church

"First United Presbyterian Church"
18" X 24"
Charcoal and pastel

Ok, so I know I haven't posted anything for the past couple of months, but beginning the new year, I hope to improve my performance. This piece was very hard for me to do because I'm not good at landscapes or architecture, so it was a challenge. There are a couple of things off that I would go back and fix if I could, but I actually think I did a fairly decent job. Hope to post another picture tomorrow or at least sometime this week.
